About Us

Dave Irwin,

Clinical Educator & Founder of The ECG Hub

At The ECG Hub, we want to help you to gain confidence and achieve your full potential when interpreting ECGs.

My own ECG “lightbulb moment” happened when I myself was a student and observed a Cardiologist deciding on a patients treatment based on the ECG I captured.

I realised this:

  • We all use the same electrodes!
  • We all print onto the same paper!
  • We all interpret the same findings of those same black lines!

With regular practice and continuously adding to your own professional development, you can interpret with confidence, just like your mentors!

Dave Irwin ECG Specialist Trainer

My background is primarily in pre-hospital emergency care, beginning as an Emergency Medical Technician before qualifying as a Paramedic, later an Advanced Paramedic and currently an Educator.

Whether working on Emergency Ambulances, Response Vehicles or Aeromedical services, there is never a shift that doesn’t require ECG interpretation! My guess is that your clinical environment and experience is the same!

During my time in Pre Hospital Care, I have earned an MSc in Emergency Medical Science (Advanced Paramedic), the PHECC Tutor Award and am currently undertaking an MSc in Health Professional Education.

I have been lucky to gain experience in teaching roles that have allowed me to develop our signature methods of ECG education. These methods have been tried and tested with your colleagues while working as an Assistant Clinical Professor for UCD School of Medicine, an Adjunct Clinical Lecturer for UCC School of Medicine and instructing Advanced Cardiac Life Support for Experienced Providers in several major hospitals.
